Installing A Chain Link Fence? Here's How To Do It Right

Whether you're adding a fence for privacy, safety, or just for aesthetic reasons, installing a chain link fence can be a great way to improve the look of your property. But it's important to make sure the job is done right –– because if not, your chain link fence will look bad and may even become dangerous.

Start With a Solid Foundation

A chain link fence isn't much use without a solid foundation. The foundation is what will hold the chain link fence in place and support its weight. Make sure you dig your postholes deep enough, at least a few feet deep. This will ensure that your fence is stable and secure long after it's been installed.

Oftentimes, the best way to ensure that your fence is properly supported is by using concrete footings. These footings should be deep and wide enough so that they can support the weight of the fencing and prevent it from shifting or sagging over time.

Be sure to check local regulations for any restrictions on digging before you begin this process. They often stipulate the depth and diameter of your postholes with clear guidelines.

Protect Your Posts

Once you have your posts in place, you need to protect them from corrosion and other damage. To do this, you should use an acrylic-based sealer or paint on each post before attaching the fencing material. This will help keep moisture out of the wood and ensure your posts will last as long as possible.

Additionally, you should also use galvanized steel brackets when attaching the fencing material, as this will further reduce corrosion and prolong the life of your fence. The brackets also double as reinforcement, making your fence even sturdier.

Measure Carefully

When cutting your chain link fabric for installation, it's important that all measurements are accurate. Don't cut the fencing materials until you are completely sure about where and how much needs to be cut off. This ensures that all pieces fit together perfectly, with no gaps or overlaps between them.

You should also make sure that all cuts are made with sharp tools. Dull blades can cause ragged edges, which can weaken the fabric and detract from its overall appearance.
