An Overview Of Aluminum Fences

by Devon Ramos

One of the popular fencing options for home and business owners is aluminum. Aluminum requires less maintenance and is cheaper than wrought iron. These fences are also resistant to corrosion. Here is a brief look at what you need to know about aluminum fences.

Applications of Aluminum Fences

When installing aluminum fences, you need to keep your specific needs in mind. There are a variety of applications for aluminum fences:

Security

Tall aluminum fences create a secure boundary around all your property. This not only discourages intruders but also prevents dogs and other pets from moving out of your property. Furthermore, you can beef up security in your home by combining your aluminum fence with a computerized gate system.

Child Safety

One of the reasons many homeowners install aluminum fences is because of their kids. These fences can rise a few feet, which is high enough to keep your children within your property.

Pool Safety

Another reason to consider aluminum fencing is for pool safety. Many tragic accidents happen when swimming pools are inadequately protected.

Ornamental Fencing

Aluminum fences can also improve the aesthetics of your property. Ornamental fencing increases the eye appeal of your home to potential buyers.

Types of Aluminum Fences

The main types of aluminum fences are flat-top and spear-point aluminum fences. Flat-top aluminum fences are flat on top. This design is suited for swimming pools because the flat top provides an area for hanging rafts and towels. Flat-top aluminum fences are also popular in bars and restaurants for outdoor dining facilities.

Spear-point aluminum fences, like the name suggests, have a spear point above the rail. A straight spear-point fence has equal-sized pickets to provide uniformity. A staggered spear-point fence has pickets that are high and low. With both styles, it is hard to climb over. For additional security, there are variations of these styles where the points are facing outward. This makes it impossible to climb the fence.

Grades of Aluminum Fences

Aluminum fences come in three different grades, namely: residential, commercial, and industrial grades. The residential and commercial grades are suited for homes and high-traffic areas respectively, while the industrial grade is for swimming pools, manufacturing facilities, and parking lots.

The residential grade is cheap because of its low manufacturing cost. However, the commercial grade is slightly costlier than the residential grade. It has thick pickets and great wall strength. The rails are also thicker.
